VIDEO PARTY · STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

Watch YouTube and local videos together.

Bring up to five people into a private Video Party room, including you. Watch in sync, pause together and keep the conversation going with voice and text chat.

  1. Create a room on Mac

Sign in to Video Party, open Rooms and choose Create room. Your room is private and has space for five people, including its creator.

  2. Invite your people

Share the room ID with your friends. They sign in to their room-enabled app and enter that ID. A room ID is different from the activation code used to connect your own devices.

  3. Choose what to watch

For YouTube, search or paste an on-demand video link. For a local video, each desktop participant must add the exact same file to their own library. You can also choose an existing upload from the creator’s cloud library.

  4. Watch and talk together

Everyone can play, pause and seek. Mac users can speak, listen and send text messages. TVs play YouTube and cloud videos, listen to voice and briefly show new messages. A TV and desktop companion on the same account count as one person.

A few things to know before inviting friends

Rooms do not automatically send or upload local files. A different edit or encoding will not match, even if the filename is the same. TV participants stay in chat when a local file is selected. Hidden and VR videos cannot be used in rooms. YouTube ads and regional or embedding restrictions can interrupt playback; live streams and playlists are outside this preview. TV compatibility and long-call voice reliability are still being tested.
